My name is Randy and I am a mentor for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients in the San Diego County area.
KIDNEY PATIENT EXPERIENCE
At the age of 36, I went to see the doctor to treat what I thought were flu-like symptoms. Blood tests indicated that I had Chronic Glomerulonephritis and my kidney function was down to 8%. I was told that I needed dialysis immediately in order to survive. Naturally, I was shocked. My world was turned upside down overnight. I spent the next nine months as a dialysis patient. The first four months, I was a hemodialysis patient. The final five months, I was a peritoneal dialysis patient. On November, 25, 2009, I received the wonderful gift of life from my brother Dustin. I am happy to report that both Dustin and I are living healthy lives with one kidney each.
“I created a bucket list of 20 items while in the hospital getting my transplant. I’m proud to say that eight months later I completed an item on my list – I climbed Mt. Whitney!”
I live in the Kearny Mesa area, but I am willing to travel anywhere within San Diego County to provide support for other ESRD patients.
