Hello, my name is Keith Kirkpatrick and I am one of the Mentors with the ReMend Mentoring Program for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in the San Diego County area.
KIDNEY PATIENT EXPERIENCE
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of eleven. Due to diabetes, I have encountered many medical issues in my life. I was informed that my kidneys were beginning to fail in the early 1990’s. By 2006, I was making plans for a kidney transplant thanks to my loving sister who was willing to donate one of her kidneys. My transplant surgery went fine, but there were many complications along the way. In June of 2010, I had a major infection that proved to end my transplant and I began hemo dialysis.
I am on the transplant list for a kidney pancreas transplant and I am looking forward to the next opportunity.
I seek enjoyment in each and every day because every day is always a new adventure.
I live in San Diego and I am willing to travel in San Diego to provide mentoring support for those that want/need a mentor.
