Hello, my name is Jim and I am one of the Mentors with the ReMend Mentoring Program for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in the San Diego County area.
KIDNEY PATIENT EXPERIENCE
I have the genetic disease called PKD of which there are two types, I have Autosomal Dominate Polycystic Kidney Disease. In late 2000, my kidney function dropped below 12% and I went on peritoneal dialysis (PD). I did PD in the comfort of my home. In early October 2001, I received a kidney transplant from a living donor who was a co-worker of mine at the time. In 2004, my transplanted kidney failed. I went on hemodialysis and did that at an in-center dialysis center.Six months later, my transplanted kidney worked well enough on it’s own that I did not require dialysis. In January 2011, I received my second kidney transplant at Sharp Memorial Hospital that continues to work well with a normal creatinine level.
“Having been blessed with a strong positive attitude along with the two wonderful donors, a wonderful Wife, Family and Friends gave me the will to survive the ordeals of ESRD.”
I live in Carlsbad, CA but I am more than willing to travel anywhere in San Diego County to provide mentoring support for those that want/need a mentor.
