Hello, my name is Charles Wesley and I am one of the Mentors with the ReMend Mentoring Program for End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients in the San Diego County area.
KIDNEY DONOR EXPERIENCE
I became interested in donating a kidney just from the return on investment. I was really captivated by the idea that I could “spend” a few weeks of my life and help someone else live 10-15 years longer–over 100x my time investment. When I learned how many people were waiting for transplants, and how my donation could facilitate other kidney exchanges through the National Kidney Registry, I knew I wanted to get involved.
“I can’t describe how great it feels to know you’ve helped add years to someone’s life. If I went back in time I would absolutely donate again, without hesitation.”
I donated my kidney at Sharp Memorial Hospital in March 2012. A little over three weeks later, I was back to work. At eight weeks, I could exercise strenuously without noticing any pain or discomfort. Since then, except for the great feeling that comes with extending someone else’s life, I feel no differently than I did before the surgery.
I live in Linda Vista and I am more than willing to travel anywhere in San Diego County to provide mentoring support for those that want/need a mentor.
I speak English.
