Co-Founder / Board Director
Alan Sorkin has a rich, varied career as Founder and Chief Executive of numerous for-profit and 5 not-for-profit corporations; a major International philanthropic funding organization; and serves, and has served, on numerous boards.
In 2008 after being diagnosed with End Stage Renal disease, he registered on the website: www.matchingdonors.com and met a 23 year old female, looking to help someone in need…
She said, “I want to do this after reading story after story of how many people are on the donor list, and how many people are forced to add their name to this list. Thankfully I do not know anyone that is in need, and could not imagine knowing someone that would have to go through this scary thing, with no one to turn to.”
She agreed to test and came to San Diego and on July 7, 2010 and changed his life.
He and his wife Louarn were founding partners of San Diego Social Venture Partners in 2001. They remain highly involved because of the friendships they have made; the quality of the work that we do; and the leverage our partners create for San Diego nonprofit and philanthropic community. Alan is the immediate Past President of Social Venture Partners International now in 7 countries, board member of ReMend, former board member and Advisory board member of San Diego Grant makers and Just in Time for Foster Youth.
